3 Ways to Get Rid of a Tree Stump

If you have had a tree removed from your yard or one has fallen over, you probably have an unsightly stump left in your yard. You want to get rid of that as soon as possible because stumps can attract vermin and insects to come live in your yard, and then eventually move into your house. You don't want that to happen, so you need to get rid of the stump. There are a number of ways that you can do that.

Dig/Haul it Out

One way that you can do it is to have the stump dug out or hauled out. They are combined because they are often used together. The way that it works is that the person does the removal is going to dig down all around the stump and cutting and breaking as many of the big roots as possible. It's those big roots that secure the stump to the ground, so it can take some time to cut through them and break them up. Once the stump has been dug up, then the people doing the removal can pick it up and get it out. Or, they can hook it up to a chain and a truck, and use the truck to do the heavy work of pulling the stump out of the ground. The removal service may just try to pull the stump out of the ground without digging it all up, depending on the size of the trees.

Explosives

The removal service may use some explosives to remove the stump if it's a big stump or it's really deep in your yard. The explosives shouldn't be high explosives, since they're unnecessary for this kind of usage. The removal service will drill holes in the stump at strategic places and then put in the explosives that they have, then blow up the stump to get rid of it.

Grinding

Another option is that the tree removal service can also decide to grind out the stump. This would be done with a special tool, which a contractor will wheel over to the stump and starts grinding it away a little bit at a time until it gets down to the ground. The person doing the work may dig around the stump so that they can get better contact with the stump. Once the stump is gone, the tree removal service will cover up the hole so that there isn't any sign of the stump.

Have you ever marveled at just how enormous mature trees are? What's even more wondrous is the fact that they manage to keep growing and surviving with little interference from the humans who live around them. You don't need to water or fertilize your tree every day like you would a tomato plant. But that's not to say trees do not benefit from some care. Trimming, annual fertilizing, and the occasional deep watering can go a long way towards improving your trees' health. You can learn more about these and other tree services on this website, which we created for tree huggers, tree lovers, and average homeowners alike.
